SBA: Franchises and independent small business loan risk compared

Source: SBA, bad loan failures that must be charged off from 2000-2010

The SBA charge-offs come from loans that  the SBA has recognized as nonperforming, moving the unpaid amount from its receivables to its uncollectible loan account. Small business loan disbursements of ten or more are tracked for some 583 franchise brands and for all industry codes (NAIC). The charge off rate is from SBA-guaranteed loans from October 1, 2000 to September 30, 2010.
