President of Focus Brands Discusses Operating Restaurants, Keeping Franchisees Happy

President of Focus Brands North America Paul Damico says in a video-recorded interview that the restaurant business has changed drastically. "Ten years ago it was fairly simple and straightforward to run a restaurant. Today it's very, very complicated," he observes. [Via Fast Casual]

Focus Brands is an affiliate of Roark Capital Group, an Atlanta-based private equity firm. FB owns franchisors Moe's Southwest Grill, Schlotzksy's Deli, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, McAlister's Deli, Cinnabon and Carvel. 

Bringing up the topic of franchisees during the interview, Damico says, "Just like we are concerned with how our consumers feel about us, we’re just as concerned with how our franchisees feel about us. And so there’s an important metric there of making sure that they are happy as well."

The interview, conducted by Tim Tang, took place during the October 9-11, 2016 Fast Casual Executive Summit in Dana Point, California. During it Damico discusses how he and his company deal with some of the most important challenges affecting not only Focus Brands, but the restaurant business as a whole.
