The Franchise Owner's most trusted news source
Minneapolis-based franchisor Great Clips Inc. announced yesterday that on January 1, 2018, Rhoda Olsen will vacate her role as CEO and become a member of its board of directors. The company's president, Steve Hockett, will be promoted to CEO and COO Rob Goggins will be promoted to president.
The company says that Olsen plans to spend more time with her family, on travel and on volunteer work.
"After decades of dedicated leadership to Great Clips and our great customers, it is time for me to pass on the privilege of leading this wonderful organization," Olsen said.
Since joining the company as an executive and an owner in 1987, Olsen has seen Great Clips grow from a thousand salons in 1998 to more than four thousand across the United States and Canada in 2016.
Ray Barton, chairman of the Great Clips board of directors, said that he plans to work with Olsen on the board "to ensure Steve, Rob and the rest of the executive team carry on the values and culture that have made Great Clips the hair salon of choice for millions of customers each week."
Incoming CEO Hockett joined the franchising firm after a failed attempt as a Great Clips franchisee from 1988 to 1990. After leaving Great Clips in 2002, Hockett eventually served as president of franchise brokerage firm FranChoice, and president of franchising firm Rapid Refill. He rejoined Great Clips as vice president of operations in 2008, promoted to chief operating officer in 2011 and became its president in 2014.
"We are pleased to have such an exceptional leader ready to rise from the ranks to fill the CEO role. Steve knows Great Clips inside and out," Olsen said.
Incoming president Goggins joined Great Clips in 2007 as vice president of development. He was promoted to COO in 2014.
